“Colourful” Gastown’s Blood Alley

Vancouver’s Gastown neighbour is full of colorful historical stops. On my brief introductory tour of the city, I was quickly charmed by the sites that show the remnants of Vancouver’s seedier site and “emerging” future.

Very little is more colourful to a genteel resident of the twenty-first century than a gruesomely-named street in a cool part of town. Internet research suggests a very gruesome history to accompany the name. The easy explanation – there used to be a lot of butcher shops on the street. The rough explanation – there used to be public executions in the square.
