Even though it happened in 1999, I clearly remember this laundry drying in the blazing sun on top of Hotel Posada Los Bucaros in Antigua, Guatemala. The most amazing thing about the rooftop was its accidental discovery. Roaming around our small hotel, killing time waiting for our friend, we found a stairwell that led to an open roof looking out across Antigua. For someone who lives in a hilly city in a province renowned for its rolling hills, the flatness of Antigua, punctuated by the three volcanoes circling the town, was strangely overwhelming.
Despite the fact it consistently rained for three hours each day, I’ve never seen whiter whites.
